Why do we see a dentist twice a year? What about routine appointments with a primary care doctor? The answer is prevention. As humans, we take preventative measures for nearly every aspect of our lives except how we move.
My name is Jim Heafner. I am a Doctor of Physical Therapy, Orthopedic Clinical Specialist, and owner at Heafner Health Physical Therapy in Boulder, CO. After graduating from Physical Therapy school, I completed an Orthopedic residency program specializing in orthopedics, manual therapy, and functional movement assessment. After gaining an interest in functional movement, I became certified in the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) and Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) programs to gain a deeper understanding of the human movement system. These advanced training courses gave me the knowledge to evaluate and treat dysfunction in movement.

Choosing the 7 Movements

The 7 functional movements were derived from the Functional Movement Screen (FMS), a screening tool used to identify asymmetries in individuals. Each movement requires the participant to have optimal mobility and stability in various demanding postures. Due to the complexity of each movement, compensations will be identified if someone is weak in a particular movement pattern. The FMS has been shown to a good predictive screening tool for injury in the athletic population. For the online movement evaluation, I use the same 7 functional movements, but do not follow the grading criteria used for the FMS.
Take Your Screening Online: We Analyze Your Videos Using Coach's Eye

Coach's Eye software technology gives the examiner the capability to analyze and review functional movements immediately. The video analysis technology allows one to slow down the movements, provide side-by-side comparisons, use video telestrations, and audio voice over. Using this technology, the examiner can breakdown the movement precisely and review each compensation following analysis.
